Music on the Green 2011
Well Music on the Green 2011 has now taken place and what a blast we had.
It was bigger than before, there were more people than before, we raised more money on the day than before AND we had an even better time.
22 bands played non-stop throughout the 12 hour spectacular and ever one pleased the crowd in some way. The Barker and Gotelee morning session included young local bands progressing on to folk and even an extra acoustic solo spot from Hannah Farthing, who filled in during a technical problem to high acclaim. Thanks also to Dirty Addiction who stood in at a late stage and produced an excellent rock set.
The Martlesham Monthly afternoon set was a cracker with a trio of excellent original performers filling the afternoon. First of mention was This Blank Page, who’s funky style was well veryreceived by the crowd, followed by Benjamin Bloom who welcomed us to his world. Then the afternoon headliners, Ideals, produced a storming set, so much so that the heavens opened, but the audience stayed for more.
The ever popular Chill Out hour started with the return of the Ipswich Community Gospel Choir and was followed by a perfect set from Phoenix Jazz, who played us into the sunset.
Then the evening started – Voodoo Pirate Rock and Roll from the East Town Pirates, a cracking rock covers set from the seven piece Stone Cold Sober and then Suffolk’s Premier Party Band, The Inflatables, sang themselves hoarse.
The Martells started the final headlining session with memories of Live Aid as Sandy Sutherland had the crowd chanting back to his Freddie Mercury “eh oh’s”
Then the wait was over. Stack heels, sparkle and glitter, The Glamtastics took the evening to another level with their crowd pleasing run through all the great hits of the 70’s. The crowd bayed for more and they got it in the twin guitar perfection of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Freebird before finally sending them home singing Hi Ho Silver Lining.
The 2011 festival is over, but we are delighted that due to a significant interest from the local community, the committee numbers have swelled and we are pleased to announce that the 2012 event will now go ahead.
Keep on rocking and let us raise the money for EACH.
